Doors Open at 6:30pm | Presentation Begins at 7:00pm
Join us on Thursday, February 13th, for a sweet and cozy evening at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum! Noted Boston historian Anthony Sammarco returns to share the rich and romantic history of the Baker Chocolate Company.
Sponsored by:
In 1765, fate brought Dr. James Baker and Irish chocolatier John Hannon together along the Neponset River, leading to the founding of America’s oldest and most beloved chocolate company. Their story—filled with ambition, mystery, and even a romantic twist through the famed La Belle Chocolatière campaign—will captivate history buffs and chocolate lovers alike.
For more Boston chocolate history, look to Phillips Chocolates, launched in 1905 by Sicilian immigrants Philip Strazzula and Concetta DiMare. This small family shop grew into a renowned chocolatier known for its unwavering commitment to the highest-quality ingredients. Their iconic turtles—one of Oprah’s favorite things—epitomize the brand’s legacy of excellence. The Museum has a 10-year friendship with Phillips, even visiting their factory store as a team—underscoring our shared passion for quality, craftsmanship, and sweet traditions.
Indulge in a delightful chocolate tasting and sip on rich, velvety hot cocoa as you enjoy the evening!
Anthony Sammarco will have copies of his book available for purchase after the event ($20.00 cash or check accepted).
