1954 Humber Super Snipe--A Piece of History For Sale!
For the Commonwealth tour, the British Royal Family purchased six convertibles and twenty limousines from British automakers. After the Commonwealth tour, the British government chose to sell the cars locally instead of shipping them back to England. This 1954 Humber Super Snipe was specifically designed for the 1953-1954 Commonwealth Royal Tour to chauffeur the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Philip). This specific Humber Super Snipe was used in Sri Lanka during the Queens Commonwealth tour.
In 2021, the Humber was acquired by the Larz Anderson Auto Museum and was used in various museum exhibits over the three-year ownership period. In March of 2024, the museum reached out to the Post Vintage Humber Car Club Historian, Steve Lewis, to confirm the car's provenance. The Humber Car Club confirmed that the VIN and configuration of this Super Snipe identified it as one of six convertibles used by Queen Elizabeth. To further establish the provenance, the Humber Historian noted that the Super Snipes were originally sedans that were sent to the London coachbuilder ‘Jones Ltd’ to be fitted as convertibles.
Don't miss your chance to own this rare piece of Royal Family history!
