"CURVE APPEAL: Style and Elegance in Automobile Design" opens May 6th, unveiling curvaceous, aerodynamic cars from the "streamlining" era of industrial design, which evolved in 1930's and 40's. Streamlining is a single style based on aerodynamic simplification to minimize resistance to wind or water. The teardrop, considered by experts to be the perfect shape for an object in motion, epitomized the smooth body lines, flowing up, down and around a gracefully curved canopy, which graced the premier automobiles of the day. The exhibit will feature cars from the American and European schools of Streamlining, and the elegant designs that would follow.
